CSK defeated RCB in the IPL 17 opening match on March 22.
It was a dominant performance from the side that saw a captaincy switch on the eve of its opener, with Ruturaj Gaikwad taking over the reins from the legendary Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
After winning the toss, RCB captain Faf du Plessis decided to bat first. Anuj Rawat's 48 and Dinesh Karthik's 38* and their 66* run partnership carried the team to 173/6 in 20 overs after RCB had a dismal start when they were 78/5 at one point.
In response, every batter on the CSK side contributed; the primary run-getters were Rachin Ravindra (37), Shivam Dube (34*), Ajinkya Rahane (27), and Ravindra Jadeja (25*). In Chepauk, CSK maintained their dominance over RCB by winning by a margin of six wickets.
This was Virat Kohli’s first competitive cricket match after two months. And he was involved in a funny incident during his time at the crease. The incident took place in the 11th over of RCB's innings.
Kohli and RCB’s recruit Cameron Green were trying to rebuild the innings and were facing Ravindra Jadeja. Cameron Green pushed a delivery back to Jadeja, who was in the middle of his third over. The brilliant Indian all-rounder is renowned for finishing his overs quickly.
He blocked the ball, then jokingly hinted that he could hand it to Kohli, only to dash back to his mark to bowl the next delivery. The renowned Indian batter responded by requesting that Jadeja allow Green some space to breathe.
"Abey sans to lene de usko," said Kohli, which translates to "Let Cameron Green breathe, man."
