Defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) faced Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the IPL 2024 opening match on March 22, 2024. This match was played at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Chennai.

RCB captain Faf du Plessis won the toss and chose to bat first. He gave the team a brilliant start with 35 in 23 balls with 8 fours. But after his dismissal at the hands of Mustafizur Rahman, RCB experienced a mini-collapse.

Rahman picked 4/29 as RCB was reduced to 78/5 with Virat Kohli making 21, while Rajat Patidar and Glenn Maxwell scored ducks. But Anuj Rawat (48 in 25 balls) and Dinesh Karthik (38*) added 95 runs for the 6th wicket to take RCB to 173/6 in 20 overs.
