Rohit was replaced as MI captain by Hardik Pandya in a debatable decision by the team management.
This was Rohit Sharma’s first post since he was replaced as Mumbai Indians captain three months ago. MI brought in Hardik Pandya from Gujarat Titans in an all cash deal trade and named him captain for the upcoming IPL 2024 season, much to the shock of MI fanbase.
Rohit Sharma had led MI to their maiden IPL title in 2013 and won four more titles in 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020. The decision was widely criticised by both fans of the franchise and veteran cricketers, making it the cynosure for Mumbai in the lead-up to the tournament.
But the MI management cited the franchise’s poor performance in the last three seasons of the IPL as a reason for changing captains. Mark Boucher, the head coach, also said that they wanted Rohit Sharma to bat for MI without any pressure of captaincy.
Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma announced his joining the training camp of the MI franchise with a caption-less post on social media. Rohit Sharma shared a black and white post that announced his return to Mumbai Indians three months after he was shockingly removed from captaincy.
MI had previously shared a video of Rohit Sharma’s first hit in the nets in training camp as well.
