Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) head coach Daniel Vettori expressed his delight after successfully acquiring the services of Australia's 2023 World Cup-winning captain Pat Cummins at a whopping price of INR 20.50 crore in the IPL 2024 auction.
Cummins entered the IPL 2024 auction with a base price of INR 2 Cr, shortly after leading Australia to victory in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India.
Initially, the Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) showed interest in the star Australian pacer, but they eventually withdrew from the bidding war at the auction.
Despite a determined pursuit by the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) won the battle for the fast bowler, who doesn’t only bring valuable skills as a lower-order batter but also his successful leadership skills to the side.
However, SRH head coach Daniel Vettori avoided giving any detail about the team’s plans, but he didn’t deny the possibility of Cummins captaining the Sunrisers Hyderabad side in IPL 2024.
Daniel Vettori told JioCinema: “I think it's obviously a discussion (on Cummins being a leader at SRH). There is a lot of cricket to be played between now and the IPL 2024 and Cummins has been so successful for Australia. World Cup winner, he pretty much wins everything he touches. So it will surely be a conversation to have.”
