The much-anticipated Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 auction is all set to take place in Dubai on Tuesday (December 19).

Several young players from the Indian domestic set-up are likely to trigger a bidding war. One such player could be Uttar Pradesh's Sameer Rizvi, who has left a lasting impression on cricket pundits with his stunning domestic exploits in 2023.

Former cricketers such as Aakash Chopra, Abhinav Mukund and Suresh Raina believe that Rizvi could secure a hefty deal at the auction.

Speaking on Jio Cinema, Mukund revealed he was told by an IPL scout that Rizvi is a right-handed Suresh Raina.

"One of the IPL scouts actually told me that he was the right handed Suresh Raina. The areas that he hits against spin are similar and many teams might go after him," Mukund said.

Ex-India pacer RP Singh reckons Rizvi could be a perfect fit in the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) squad for the IPL 2024 as they do not have a reliable finisher in their ranks.

Chopra echoed with Singh and stated that Rizvi has the ability to smash big sixes at will.

"Lucknow Super Giants might need someone as a finisher. They do have a lot of top-order batters and the finishers might need to be an Indian. They have Marcus Stoinis and Nicholas Pooran as their No. 4 and No. 5. They have Deepak Hooda who is not your ideal No. 6 and Ayush Badoni is decent. I was watching the UP T20 League and he's done well there and can hit big sixes," Chopra remarked.

Sameer Rizvi, who hails from Meerut, slammed the fastest century in the inaugural edition of the UP T20 League. The 20-year-old boasts an average of 49.16 in domestic T20s at a strike rate of 134.70.

"Sameer Rizvi has a different intent in his batting. He would get a lot of confidence if he gets to play for an UP team. He is a Badoni-type player but plays with a straighter bat," Raina said about the youngster.
