India pacer Mohammad Shami took the cricketing world by storm with his brilliant display in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. He was included in the playing XI after India were forced to alter their playing combination due to Hardik Pandya’s ankle injury.

As it turned out, Shami grabbed the opportunity with both hands, finishing the tournament as the highest wicket-taker with 24 scalps to his name from seven matches at an astonishing average of 10.70 with three five-wicket hauls.

Earlier this year, Shami won the purple cap for taking the most wickets in IPL 2023 for Gujarat Titans (GT). No wonder, his stocks have grown by leaps and bounds in recent times.

Such has been the impact of Shami that he was recently offered a potential switch in the IPL trading window by a franchise, as revealed by GT Chief Operating Officer (COO) Colonel Arvinder Singh.

Singh expressed his disappointment with the way a particular team tried to initiate the trade while also citing that directly approaching a player is against the rules set by the IPL governing body.

"See, every team has the right to take good players to make their team stronger. Mohammad Shami has done well for us, won the purple cap holder last season, he performed well in the World Cup. He is a very important part of our team. The wrong thing is when some franchises directly approach players. The BCCI has made a procedure for trading. There is an expression of interest that goes to BCCI and it is subsequently shared to the concerned franchise, who can then they take a call whether to go on with the trade or not," Singh told News 18.

Talking about Shami, he has been picked for the upcoming two-match Test series against South Africa, starting December 26 in Centurion. However, his availability is subject to fitness.

According to reports, Shami developed an ankle condition soon after the World Cup and the veteran pacer is currently undergoing medical treatment.
