Sunrisers Hyderabad on Monday (August 7) announced the signing of New Zealand legend Daniel Vettori as their head coach for the next Indian Premier League (IPL) season.

Vettori replaced Brian Lara as SRH’s head coach. The former West Indies skipper served the franchise as chief coach in the 2023 season and played the role of strategic advisor and batting coach in 2022.

Taking to micro-blogging site X, Sunrisers Hyderabad confirmed the development with a couple of posts.

“Announcement Kiwi legend Daniel Vettori joins the #OrangeArmy as Head Coach. Welcome, coach!” SRH wrote.

In another post, the 2016 IPL winner wrote, “As our 2 year association with Brian Lara comes to an end, we bid adieu to him. Thank you for the contributions to the Sunrisers. We wish you all the best for your future endeavours.”

Sunrisers Hyderabad finished the IPL 2023 season in the last position. The franchise was reportedly not happy with Lara’s coaching style and wanted to part ways with him ahead of the 2024 season.

Daniel Vettori has plenty of experience as a coach. He was Royal Challengers Bangalore’s head coach in the IPL from 2014 to 2018, and was recently assistant coach of the Australia men's team.
