Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) are set to overhaul their backroom staff ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 and they have reportedly parted ways with Director of Cricket Mike Hesson and coach Sanjay Bangar.

RCB endured a disappointing campaign in the IPL 2023 season, finishing at the sixth position in the points table with 7 wins from 14 matches.

According to a report published in The Indian Express, the Bangalore-based franchise has released both prominent coaches and is now in search of fresh coaches. The report also claims that the future of bowling coach Adam Griffith remains uncertain.

Hesson joined RCB before IPL 2020 while Bangar was roped in as batting consultant by the franchise in 2021. Bangar was named RCB’s head coach for IPL 2022 and 2023 seasons.

As per the report, the franchise is now keen to have someone who can bring fresh ideas. It’s not clear whether RCB will hire a foreign coach or an Indian.

RCB made it to the playoffs of IPL 2020, 2021 and 2022. They lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad in the eliminator of IPL 2020 and were beaten by Kolkata Knight Riders in the eliminator of IPL 2021. In 2022, RCB managed to win the eliminator against Lucknow Super Giants but came up short against Rajasthan Royals in the second qualifier.

RCB are yet to win the elusive IPL title. They have made three final appearances in the cash-rich tournament, with the last one coming way back in 2016.
