Avesh took his helmet off and smashed it hard on the ground after LSG's win over RCB.
The incident took place on April 10 after LSG chased down RCB’s huge target of 213 on the final delivery of the match.
Avesh himself faced the last ball with single needed against Harshal Patel. He swung his bat but couldn’t connect and then rushed towards the non-striker’s end. Since RCB wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik fumbled and failed to inflict an easy run-out, LSG ended up winning the game in a dramatic fashion.
After taking his team over the finishing line, Avesh erupted into a wild celebration as he took his helmet off and smashed it hard on the ground, triggering a massive outrage on social media.
In an exclusive interview with The Indian Express, Avesh Khan reflected on his celebration and admitted that he regrets throwing his helmet.
“Yeh social media mein mera mahool bana rehta hai and helmet incident thoda jyada hogaya tha (That helmet incident was a bit too much, I shouldn’t have done that). I realised later that I shouldn’t have done this. It just happened in the heat of the moment. I now feel sad that yaar yeh sab cheez nahi karna tha," the fast bowler said.
Having impressed during the IPL 2022 season, and earning his place in the Indian team, Avesh last made an appearance for the Men in Blue back in October 2022 against South Africa.
Having made his international debut in February 2022, Avesh Khan has represented India in 5 ODIs and 15 T20Is so far, claiming a total of 16 wickets. His last appearance for the Men in Blue was in October 2022 against South Africa in an ODI match.
“I’m hoping to be there. Selection is not in my hand as a player, one goes through ups and down. I want to make a comeback and just hoping to do that," Avesh added.
