IPL 2023: Scenarios- Who wins the final between CSK and GT if rain washes out the reserve day as well?

The IPL 2023 final, scheduled on May 28, had to be moved to reserve day on May 29 due to rains.

For the first time in Indian Premier League history, the final of a tournament will be played on the reserve day as the summit clash of the IPL 2023, which was scheduled for the May 28th, Sunday had to be postponed to Monday, May 29, 2023, due to heavy rains in Ahmedabad resulting in no play possible.

Not even the toss could happen as various spots in the Narendra Modi Stadium’s field turned into puddles of water due to heavy downpours.

First, the closing ceremony was delayed due to rain and then the toss kept getting postponed with the rain clearing out for a few moments around 9 pm (IST) before resuming and ultimately, around 10:55 pm (IST), it was announced at the venue that the match has been rescheduled for Monday.

Now the question arises whether there will be a full game possible on Monday and the good news is the possibility is bright but the bad news is there’s a slight chance of rain today as well.

The match could face a delayed start in the event of rains lashing the ground again. So, if the rain forces the match to not start on time i.e., 7:30 pm (IST), no overs will be lost till it gets underway by 9:35 pm local time. Post that deadline, there will be a reduction in overs and the number depends on how late it begins.

If the conditions do not improve then a five-overs-a-side will be held. However, for that to happen, the deadline is 12:06 am (IST)

Once the possibility of a five overs shootout ends, the winner will be decided by Super Over. The cut-off for this is 1:20 am (IST)

Now even if the rains continue to impact the game and not even a super over is possible, then the team that topped the league stage will be declared the winner of the season (as per last year’s playing conditions).

This means, Gujarat Titans who finished the regular season with 20 points to top the table will be declared the winners of IPL 2023 as Chennai Super Kings were second with 17 points.
