Gill notched up the three-figure mark in just 49 balls.
Playing for Gujarat Titans (GT) against Mumbai Indians (MI) in Qualifier 2 of IPL 2023, Gill took the cricketing world by storm with his scintillating century.
Opening the innings, the right-hander got off to a steady start. He was on 20 off 15 balls after the fifth over. However, Shubman took the MI attack to the cleaners after he got his eyes in.
Gill completed his half-century in the 10th over off 33 balls and went berserk thereafter. The GT opener started dealing in boundaries and it took him only 16 more deliveries to reach the three-figure mark.
It was Shubman Gill’s third century in the ongoing IPL and he also surpassed Faf du Plessis’ tally to become the top run-getter this season. Gill continued his carnage after the hundred and went on to score 129 off 60 balls before being dismissed by Akash Madhwal in the 17th over. His knock was studded with 7 fours and 10 sixes.
During the course of his knock, Shubman was involved in a 138-run partnership for the second wicket with Sai Sudharsan, who scored 43 off 31 balls before being retired out. In the death overs, skipper Hardik Pandya returned with a cameo of 13-ball 28*, propelling the defending champions to a mammoth 233/3 in 20 overs.
For his breathtaking century, Shubman Gill received rich praise from the cricket fraternity on Twitter.
