CSK qualified for their 10th IPL final, defeating GT in Qualifier 1.
CSK had been asked to bat first by Hardik Pandya, the GT captain and thanks to Ruturaj Gaikwad’s 60 and Devon Conway’s 40 and their 87-run opening partnership, along with 22 from Ravindra Jadeja, CSK posted 172/7 in 20 overs.
In reply, only Shubman Gill (42) and Rashid Khan’s 30 in 16 balls stood up to the CSK spinners as GT could conjure up only 157 runs, to lose Qualifier 1 by 15 runs.
Pacer Deepak Chahar picked two wickets to hamper GT’s chase, including the all-important dismissal of in-form Shubman Gill (46). Chahar has been in lethal form with the ball since his comeback and has registered eight wickets in his last three outings for the franchise.
After the match, Deepak Chahar was having a chat with Suresh Raina and Parthiv Patel and revealed that in order to motivate the overseas player, he tends to convert the prize money in their local currency and tells them the amount they will win if CSK wins the final of IPL 2023.
“I tell Pathirana, we’ll get __ crore rupees in Sri Lankan currency if we win. To Conway, I converted it in New Zealand dollar (3.8 million),” Chahar told on JioCinema.
“I’d like Mumbai Indians to play in the final. We have a history with them,” he’d say in a post-match chat.
His former Chennai teammate turned commentator, Suresh Raina would mention, “CSK have lost a lot of finals from Mumbai” to which Chahar responded replied with a laugh, “Wahi toh badalna hai.”
CSK will need to wait a few more days to see who they’ll clash in IPL 2023 final on May 28 in Ahmedabad.
