CSK made it into their 10th IPL final in 14 editions.
CSK had been asked to bat first by Hardik Pandya, the GT captain and thanks to Ruturaj Gaikwad’s 60 and Devon Conway’s 40 and their 87-run opening partnership, along with 22 from Ravindra Jadeja, CSK posted 172/7 in 20 overs.
In response, only Shubman Gill (42) and Rashid Khan’s 30 in 16 balls stood up to the CSK spinners as GT could conjure up only 157 runs, to lose Qualifier 1 by 15 runs.
While the CSK bowlers kept the GT batters bound with their disciplined bowling, Deepak Chahar even attempted to run out Vijay Shankar at the bowling end in the 14th over to further push GT against the wall.
Shankar was about to leave the crease when the CSK pacer flicked his wrist and attempted to remove the bails. While Chahar did not complete his run-up, it served as a courteous warning to the batsman who hadn't left the crease.
Seeing the event unfold from behind the wickets, CSK skipper Dhoni couldn’t help but give away a cheeky smile as he reacted to Chahar’s antics.
