Shubman's sister Shahneel received vile messages and comments on social media.
Virat Kohli's spectacular hundred (101* off 61) helped RCB reach a mammoth score of 197/5 in their stipulated 20 overs after being asked to bat first by GT captain Hardik Pandya.
In response, Gujarat completed the task in 19.1 overs thanks to Shubman Gill, who maintained his incredible form and reached his second consecutive century (104*) of the year.
This meant that RCB were knocked out of the IPL playoffs race, as they needed to win this match anyhow. Earlier in the day, Mumbai Indians had won their encounter against Sunrisers Hyderabad and with RCB losing, made it into the final four.
While wins and losses are part of the sport, a section of fans didn't take RCB's loss well and started to abuse Gill on social media. Even Gill's sister Shahneel was targeted by some fans, especially over her Instagram post after the match.

This included vile threats and even death wishes for Shubman Gill and his sister.
Taking cognizance of this, Maliwal said that action will be taken against those trolling the batter’s sister.
“Extremely shameful to see trollers abusing #ShubhmanGill’s sister just because the team they follow lost a match. Previously we had initiated action against people abusing #ViratKohli’s daughter. DCW will take action against all those who have abused Gill’s sister as well. This shall not be tolerated!” she said in a tweet.
GT will now face Chennai Super Kings in the Qualifier 1 on May 23 in Chennai with the winner going straight into the IPL 2023 final.
