Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) batter Heinrich Klaasen has been slapped with a fine for breaching the Indian Premier League (IPL) code of conduct during his team’s clash against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad on Saturday (May 13).

Klaasen was reprimanded for making an ‘inappropriate comment’ during the game. He admitted to the Level 1 offence and has been fined 10 per cent of his match fees.

“Heinrich Klaasen has been fined 10 Percent of his match-fee for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during Match 58 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Lucknow Super Giants at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad on May 13,” the IPL statement read.

“Klaasen admitted to the Level 1 Offence under Article 2.7 which states the use of public criticism/inappropriate comment in the IPL’s Code of Conduct,” it added.

During the 19th over of SRH’s innings, a high full toss by Avesh Khan was called no-ball by the on-field umpire which Abdul Samad inside-edged for a single. LSG though reviewed the decision and strangely, the TV umpire adjudged the delivery as fair reasoning that the batter was slightly crouched while facing the delivery.

This led to the Hyderabad crowd getting rowdy and the LSG dugout complained that an object was thrown at them. The play was halted for five minutes or so as authorities and police brought things under control.

Samad and his batting partner Klaasen weren’t happy with the decision, and the latter also vented out his frustration in the mid-innings.

“Disappointed of the crowd, to be honest, that’s not what you want. That also broke the momentum, not great umpiring either,” Klaasen said during an interaction with the broadcasters.

LSG leg-spinner Amit Mishra also copped a fine for violating Article 2.2 of IPL’s Code of Conduct during the match against SRH.

After dismissing Sunrisers opener Anmolpreet Singh caught and bowled, Mishra banged the ball hard on the ground to bring out an animated celebration.

“Amit Mishra has been reprimanded for breaching the IPL’s Code of Conduct. Mishra admitted to level 1 offence under Article 2.2 of IPL’s Code of Conduct which states abuse of equipment during the match. Mishra accepted the sanction,” the IPL release read.

“For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” it added.
