GT defeated LSG by 56 runs in Ahmedabad.
After being put into bat by LSG captain Krunal Pandya, GT got a massive opening partnership as Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill hammered the LSG bowlers to all parts of the Motera Stadium. The duo added 142 runs for the first wicket in just 12.3 overs.
Saha made 81 smashing 10 fours and 4 sixes in his knock, while Shubman Gill's 94* in 51 balls with 7 sixes and 2 fours was the top score for GT, as they posted 227/2 in 20 overs.
Despite facing a tough target of 228, the Lucknow Super Giants openers Kyle Mayers and Quinton de Kock, came out all guns blazing. The duo added 88 runs in 8.2 overs, with Mayers making 48 runs in 32 walls with 7 fours and 2 sixes to his name.
Quinton de Kock played a brilliant knock of 70, but LSG could only manage 171/7 in 20 overs and lost by 56 runs. For GT, Mohit Sharma took 4/29.
During the post-match interaction, Mohit was supposed to hand the Purple Cap to Shami. However, before he could do so, Gavaskar got confused about who had the honor among the two in-form LSG pacers.
Gavaskar mistakenly congratulated Mohit instead of Shami, which led to both pacers laughing out loud. “Many congratulations Mohit for holding the Purple Cap, you're getting it from Shami," said Gavaskar.
“Thanks a lot, sir, but I'm giving it to Shami, I don't have the Purple Cap," Mohit replied.
Gavaskar took the error sportingly and said: 'When they are opening bowlers, an opening batter gets confused.'
