MI chased down the target of 215 with 7 deliveries to spare.
Asked to bat first, the hosts rode on Liam Livingstone’s 42-ball 82* and Jitesh Sharma’s unbeaten 49 off 27 balls to pile up a massive 214/3 on the board.
Piyush Chawla was the stand-out bowler for MI, returning with the figures of 2 for 29 in his four-over spell.
In reply, MI lost skipper Rohit Sharma for a three-ball duck but Ishan Kishan and Cameron Green added 54 runs for the second wicket to steady the ship.
While Green was dismissed on 23, Kishan held the one end firmly. The southpaw forged a 116-run partnership with Suryakumar Yadav to MI on the driver’s seat. In particular, Suryakumar was severe on the Punjab bowlers as he slammed 66 off 31 balls.
However, both Surya and Kishan (75 off 41) got out in quick succession. In the end, it was the duo of Tilak Varma (26* off 10) and Tim David (19* off 10) who shared an unbroken 38-run stand to take MI over the finishing line with 7 deliveries to spare.
For their dazzling exploits in the chase, Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan garnered rich praise from the cricket fraternity on Twitter.
