CSK won the toss and bowled first.
Dhoni said that CSK made only one change as Deepak Chahar was fully fit and was replacing Akash Singh in the XI. For LSG, Krunal Pandya was leading the side and revealed that Manan Vohra and Karan Sharma were brought into the side, and Mohsin Khan made his first appearance in the IPL this season.
Though MS Dhoni had chosen to bowl first due to overcast conditions and the fact that pitch was covered for considerable amount of time, it was the spinners who wreaked havoc on LSG batting lineup.
Kyle Mayers made 14 and was out to Moeen Ali, while Manan Vohra was bowled by Maheesh Theekshana for 10 runs. Krunal Pandya copped a golden duck on his IPL captaincy debut and Marcus Stoinis was bamboozled by Ravindra Jadeja.
Stoinis had shown his intentions by hitting a four as soon as he came in to bat. However, on the 5th ball of the 7th over, Jadeja pitched one on the leg stump and Stoinis tried to play it down the ground.
However, the length was a bit short and the ball turned a mile to beat Stoinis’ bat and hit the top of the off-stump. It was a proper left-arm spinner’s dismissal and Jadeja was quite pleased with the result.
