CSK won the toss against LSG and chose to bowl first.
LSG had lost to RCB in their last match on this ground and in process lost the services of their captain KL Rahul who injured his hip and is now under evaluation of BCCI medical team. Krunal Pandya was named LSG captain for the rest of the IPL 2023 and he came out to toss with Dhoni.
MS Dhoni won the toss and chose to bowl first keeping in mind the overcast condition and revealed that Deepak Chahar would be back in action.
Meanwhile, during the toss, presenter Danny Morrison asked MS Dhoni whether he was enjoying the support of his fans in his last season of IPL.
To this MS Dhoni gave a huge smile and replied: “You've decided that it's my last season.”

“We'll bowl first. The fact that wicket was under covers and it looks a bit tacky, so we'll look to bowl first. You have to see all conditions and venue. For us, Deepak (Chahar) is fit, so he comes in for Akash (Singh). Rest of the team is the same,” Dhoni added.
Meanwhile, for the LSG team Krunal Pandya said that Manan Vohra and Karan Sharma were included and Mohsin Khan makes his first appearance this season.
