Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Saturday (April 29) returned to winning ways with a nine-run victory over Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

Opting to bat first, SRH piled up 197/6 in their allotted 20 overs on the back of half-centuries from Abhishek Sharma (67 off 36 balls) and Heinrich Klaasen (53* off 27 balls).

Chasing the stiff target, DC lost skipper David Warner for a second-ball duck but the duo of Philip Salt (59 off 35) and Marsh (63 off 39) added 112 for the second wicket to put the hosts on driver’s seat.

However, SRH bowlers fought back as soon as Mayank Markande (2-20) broke the partnership by removing Salt. They kept taking wickets at regular intervals and reduced DC to 148/6.

While Akshar Patel (29* off 14) tried his best in the death overs but the task at hand was too much as Delhi’s innings was eventually restricted to 188/6.

After the game, SRH skipper Aiden Markram said the win over Delhi Capitals will give great confidence to his side.

“Great team effort, good to see the guys show good skills and character. I don't mind getting things wrong if the approach is right. It helps to see such performances, the guys will see that results are there to be had. Credit to the way the team has responded,” said Markram at the post-match presentation.

“Klassy has been in great form, and Abhishek did the hard work early on. Klassy backs himself to play that way, go to see it pay off. We needed wickets to get back in the game, the two were doing well and it needed a special catch from Mayank,” he added.

This was Sunrisers Hyderabad’s third win from eight games this season and Markram said they will try to build on it.

“Fortunately, the ball was stopping a bit and the bowlers showed great character to execute their spoils. This win will give great confidence, now we travel back home and try to build on this,” he concluded.

Sunrisers Hyderabad will next face Kolkata Knight Riders at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on May 4.
