IPL 2023: WATCH- Mohit Sharma’s brilliant backwards running catch sends back Shardul Thakur

KKR hosted GT at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata in the return match.

The 39^th match of the IPL 2023 saw Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) hosting the Gujarat Titans (GT) in a return match of the tournament. KKR had famously defeated GT in Ahmedabad thanks to Rinku Singh’s five sixes in five balls in the last over.

Hardik Pandya, the GT captain won the toss and chose to bowl first keeping in mind the overcast conditions and the possibility of rain later on. He also said that GT was playing with the same combination.

KKR, on the other hand, had two changes as Rahmanullah Gurbaz replaced Jason Roy, who suffered a back niggle, and Harshit Rana came in for Umesh Yadav, who tweaked his hamstring. The match started after a delay due to a wet outfield.

Mohammad Shami struck first by removing Narayan Jagadeesan LBW as he looked dangerous after hitting 4 fours in his 19-run knock. And then the veteran India pacer also dismissed Shardul Thakur, who was sent at no.3 as a pinch hitter.

Shardul Thakur tried to hit a straight delivery from Shami over the mid-on fielder, but the ball went too high in the air. Mohit Sharma who was stationed at the mid-on position kept running back and judged the catch to perfection.
