The 38th game of the ongoing IPL 2023 took place on April 28, at the IS Bindra PCA stadium in Mohali, pitting Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) versus Punjab Kings (PBKS).

After winning the toss, Punjab Kings skipper Shikhar Dhawan decided to bowl first. Along with him, Kagiso Rabada and Sikandar Raza were also added to the XI by PBKS. Yash Thakur was picked by LSG for this match.

Though KL Rahul was dismissed for 12 runs, Kyle Mayers (54 in 24 balls) and Ayush Badoni (43 in 24 balls) laid down a good foundation for the big hitters. Badoni then added 89 runs with Marcus Stoinis who hammered 72 in 40 balls with 6 fours and 5 sixes. Nicholas Pooran made 45 in 19 balls with 7 fours and 1 six.

LSG posted 257/5 in 20 overs thanks to their assault which is the second-highest team total in IPL history behind RCB’s 263/5.

IPL 2023: Cricket fraternity left speechless as Stoinis, Mayers, Badoni and Pooran power LSG to 257/5 vs PBKS

In reply, PBKS lost Shikhar Dhawan for one run and Prabhsimran Singh’s poor outings continued as he was out for 9 runs. Atharva Taide with 66 in 36 balls and Sikandar Raza with 36 in 22 balls, tried to force some pace, but the total was too daunting for them to even take a breather.

After their dismissals, it was a procession of wickets for the home side with Liam Livingstone (23), Sam Curran (21), and Jitesh Sharma (24) trying their best but failing. In the end, PBKS finished with 201 runs in 19.5 overs.

For LSG, Yash Thakur picked 4/37, while Naveen Ul Haq picked three wickets.

Thanks to this big win, LSG now has 10 points from 8 games and thanks to a very good net run rate, moved to the second spot in the points table behind RR.
