KKR was asked to bat first and posted 200/5 in 20 overs.
Virat Kohli was once again captaining RCB and won the toss and chose to bowl first. RCB came in with an unchanged XI, while KKR included Vaibhav Arora in their XI.
Jason Roy (56) and N Jagadeesan (27) added 83 runs in 9.2 overs for the first wicket and when they got out, it looked like RCB would restrict them to a below par total. But then Venkatesh Iyer (31), Captain Nitish Rana (48 in 21 balls) and then the duo of Rinku Singh (18*) and David Wiese (12* in 3 balls) took KKR to 200/5 in 20 overs.
One batter who was expected to do more was Andre Russell, but the burly West Indian could only manage one run before being castled by Mohammed Siraj.
IPL 2023: WATCH – Vijaykumar Vyshak knocks over Jason Roy with a leg-stump yorker
Expecting an early wicket, probably that of Russell, Kohli brought on his trump card in Mohammed Siraj in the 19th over. Siraj repaid the faith as he slipped in a yorker to Russell, which honed onto his leg stump.
It was a fast delivery and Russell was late in bringing his bat down and his leg stump was disturbed sending him back to pavilion.
