Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) skipper Nitish Rana and Mumbai Indians (MI) spinner Hrithik Shokeen have been fined 25 per cent and 10 per cent of the match fee respectively for breaching the IPL code of conduct during their team’s IPL 2023 clash at the Wankhade Stadium on Sunday (April 16).

According to the statement released by IPL, Rana admitted to Level 1 Offence under Article 2.21 and Shokeen to Level 1 Offence under Article 2.5.

Shokeen and Rana got into a verbal duel in the ninth over of KKR’s innings when the former dismissed the latter and proceeded to give him a send off. Rana did not take the gesture kindly and hurled some back himself before the two players were pulled away by the other cricketers present on the ground.

In addition, MI’s stand-in skipper Suryakumar Yadav was fined for a slow over-rate.

“As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Suryakumar Yadav was fined Rs. 12 lakhs,” quoted the statement released.

Coming to the match, MI defeated KKR by five wickets. It was their second successive victory in the ongoing IPL after suffering a couple of defeats at the start of the season.

Chasing 186 to win, the five-time champions batted exceptionally well to overhaul the target in 17.4 overs. While the duo of Rohit Sharma (20 off 13) and Ishan Kishan (58 off 25) added 65 runs for the opening wicket, the likes of Suryakumar Yadav (43 off 25), Tilak Varma (30 off 25) and Tim David (24* off 13) chipped in with vital contributions to seal the deal for MI.
