DC lost to RCB in Bengaluru recording their 5th straight loss in IPL 2023.
After restricting the hosts to a competitive score of 174/6 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, DC faced a top-order collapse, leaving them 30/4. While Manish Pandey made 50 and Akshar Patel (21) and Anrich Nortje (23) contributed a bit, DC could only manage 151/9 and lost the match by 23 runs.
This convincing loss to RCB has left DC at the bottom of the table with 5 losses in 5 matches and they are in danger of being left behind in the race for the playoffs early on itself.
DC's dugout features two of the most successful captains in the history of the game Ricky Ponting and Sourav Ganguly. And Ravi Shastri took a dig at their director of cricket Ganguly, as they went down to RCB on Saturday afternoon.
“Problem now with Delhi Capitals is, especially with the way the other teams are going, you lose four on the trot, it becomes very, very difficult to come back,” Shastri said while commentating for Star Sports.
“There are people in that dugout that are not used to losing. Ricky Ponting's one,” Simon Doull, Shastri's fellow commentator, mentioned.
“David Warner too. He's been on the winning side as well,” Shastri added.
Then came the big sarcastic comment directed at former India captain and ex-BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly.
Shastri said: "It's not about losing. It's about being hammered. It's five on the trot, with you not looking like winning. Losing close games is one thing, but when you're being outplayed by the opposition, it's not a happy story. Sourav Ganguly, the former president of the board. He must have thought it was nice upstairs!”
This is Ganguly's second stint with Delhi Capitals, as he was the franchise’s mentor in IPL 2019.
