Kolkata Knight Riders beat Royal Challengers Bangalore by 81 runs.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) celebrated their return to Eden Gardens after four years, as they defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 81 runs in Match 9 of the IPL 2023 on Thursday (April 6).
RCB won their first game against Mumbai Indians handsomely in Bengaluru, while KKR lost an away game to Punjab Kings to begin their campaign.
RCB captain Faf du Plessis won the toss and elected to bowl first, as KKR slumped to 89/5 in the 12th over. Rinku Singh (46) and Shardul Thakur (68) then scripted a remarkable turnaround as they added 103 runs in 45 balls for the sixth wicket.
KKR finished with an imposing total of 204/7, with David Willey and Karn Sharma picking up two wickets apiece. RCB needed a record chase at the ground to stay unbeaten in the tournament.
Virat Kohli (21) and Du Plessis (23) put on 44 runs for the opening wicket before both the former and current RCB captain fell in quick succession. Thereafter, Sunil Narine (2/16), Varun Chakaravarthy (4/15) and debutant Suyash Sharma (3/30) spun a web around RCB to skittle them out for 123 in 17.4 overs.

KKR co-owner and Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan was also in attendance at the ground, and he was seen meeting players warmly from both teams after the match.
However, the actor shared a tight hug with Virat Kohli and even taught him the hookstep of his popular song ‘Jhoome Jo Pathaan’ from Pathaan. The two also had an extended chat afterwards.
Their interaction broke the internet as fans of the two shared the clips on Twitter:
The 34-year-old cricketer had been seen performing the step with Ravindra Jadeja during the recently concluded Test series against Australia, which even impressed the 57-year-old actor who praised Kohli and Jadeja on Twitter.
