IPL 2023: Gujarat Titans name Dasun Shanaka as injured Kane Williamson’s replacement

This will be Dasun Shanaka’s maiden season in the Indian Premier League.

Sri Lanka’s white-ball skipper Dasun Shanaka has replaced Kane Williamson in Gujarat Titans’ (GT) squad for the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) season 2023.

Williamson sustained an on-field injury to his right leg while attempting a catch at the boundary in the tournament opener against Chennai Super Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium on 31st March 2023.

Shanaka is an explosive middle-order batter who also bowls right-arm seam. He was the star performer for Sri Lanka in the T20I series in India earlier this year, smashing 124 runs in three innings at a strike rate of 187 while averaging 62.00.

Shanaka was also Sri Lanka's leading run-scorer in the subsequent ODI series, amassing 121 runs in three innings.

Signed for his base price of INR 50 lakh, this will be Dasun Shanaka’s maiden season in the Indian Premier League.
