CSK celebrated their return to Chepauk with a 12-run win over LSG.
CSK openers Ruturaj Gaikwad (57 in 31) and Devon Conway (47 in 29) added 110 runs in 9.1 overs and though LSG made a slight comeback in the middle overs, MS Dhoni gave the perfect finish to his team, by hitting Mark Wood for two back-to-back sixes in the final over of innings before getting out on the third ball he faced, as CSK posted 217/7.
In response, despite Kyle Mayers’ brutal 22-ball 52 and some lower order carnage by Nicholas Pooran, and K Gowtham, LSG could only muster 205/7 in 20 overs with Moeen Ali being the pick of CSK bowlers with 4/26 and lost the match by 12 runs.
It was a fitting return for CSK back to their home ground after 2019, as MS Dhoni gave the fans not only a win to cheer for, but also hit two sixes that received massive roars.
On the other hand, mentor of the LSG franchise, Gautam Gambhir was caught on camera with a shell shocked reaction to his former India captain’s twin blows.
This reaction from Gambhir sparked a meme fest as Twitterati remembered the finish of the 2011 World Cup final also, as Dhoni had hit a six to win the match and trophy for India.
