MI lost to RCB in their opening match, while CSK lost to GT in IPL 2023 opener.
Punjab Kings defeated Kolkata Knight Riders in an exciting match, while Delhi Capitals failed to get the best of Lucknow Super Giants on Saturday. Then on Sunday, Rajasthan Royals thumped Sunrisers Hyderabad by 72 runs, as fans waited for the blockbuster match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians.
However, RCB made the game one-sided with MI posting 171/7 in 20 overs, with Tilak Varma scoring a brilliant 84*. Then Faf du Plessis (73) added 148 runs inside 15 overs with Virat Kohli for the opening wicket to ensure RCB won the match. Kohli finished the game in 16.2 overs with 8 wickets in hand and remained unbeaten on 82.
Reacting to the recent results, former MI player Mitchell McClenaghan got into a heated debate with former CSK all-rounder Scott Styris on Twitter.
McClenaghan posted, “Positive Note. @mipaltan have never won a championship after winning the first game. Second Positive in general. How good is it to see games being played in Home grounds! Love it @IPL is back! How good is it to see games being played in Home grounds! Love it @IPL is back!”
To this Styris replied: "Another positive note... Mumbai has also finished last when they didn't win their first match"
However, not the one to take things lying down, McClenaghan had the last laugh, as he tweeted: "On another positive note - on two occasions Mumbai beat CSK in the final and on a 3rd occasion beat CSK dressed as Pune".
