MI lost the match by 8 wickets and 22 balls to spare.
Tilak Varma played a one-man show in Mumbai Indians’ eight-wicket loss on Sunday.
MI was asked to bat first after RCB captain Faf du Plessis won the toss and chose to bowl first. The Rohit Sharma-led side lost the big wickets of captain Rohit Sharma (1), Ishan Kishan (10) and Cameron Green (5). Mumbai further slipped to 48-4 when New Zealand off-spinner Michael Bracewell had Suryakumar Yadav (15) caught at point.
However, Tilak Varma anchored one end and added 50 runs with Nehal Wadhera (21) for 5th wicket and a quick partnership of 48* in 18 balls with Arshad Khan (15*) for the 8th wicket to take MI to 171/9 in 20 overs.
Varma remained unbeaten on 84 in 46 balls with 9 fours and 4 sixes. It was a special innings made even more spectacular as Varma’s family was present in the M Chinnaswamy stadium to cheer him on and were seen enjoying their son’s brutal knock.

Unfortunately for MI, RCB chased down the 172-run target with 8 wickets in hand and 22 balls to go. Faf du Plessis made 73 in 43 balls and Virat Kohli made 82* in 49 balls and the duo had added 148 runs for the first wicket in 14.5 overs.
