2nd April is the 12th anniversary of India's 2011 ODI World Cup win.
April 2nd is a date that is etched in the minds of every Indian cricket fan as the Men in Blue lifted the ICC ODI World Cup title for the second time after defeating Sri Lanka in the finals at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Gautam Gambhir (97) and MS Dhoni (91*) were stars with the bat for India who were chasing 275-run target. Sri Lanka had batted first in the final and posted 274/6 thanks to Mahela Jayawardene’s 103*.
India had lost Sachin Tendulkar (18) and Virender Sehwag (0) early to Lasith Malinga. Then Virat Kohli (35) and Gambhir had a short partnership before Kohli was out to Dilshan. Then Dhoni promoted himself over Player of the Tournament Yuvraj Singh and added 109 runs with Gambhir.
In the end, Dhoni finished the match in the 49th over by hitting Nuwan Kulasekara for a six straight over long on and the stadium erupted as Dhoni and Yuvraj celebrated in the middle with Sachin Tendulkar running out to hug the Indian captain.

On Saturday, on the eve of that the memorable win, CSK shared a video of Dhoni recreating that 2011 World Cup six during his practice for the next IPL 2023 match. The video also included pictures from that match in Mumbai and the caption read: “When nostalgia hits!”
In the IPL 2023 opening match, CSK lost to GT by 5 wickets, but MS Dhoni had sent the one lakh plus crowd in Ahmedabad crazy with a stunning six over deep square leg during seven-ball 14* knock.
