Mark Wood put on a show with the ball against DC,
Defending the total of 193, Wood ran through DC’s top-order and also cleaned up the tail to finish with the figures of 5 for 14 in four overs.
Prithvi Marsh (12), Mitchell Marsh (0), Sarfaraz Khan (4), Akshar Patel (16), and Chetan Sakariya (4) were his victims.
After the game, LSG skipper KL Rahul lauded Mark Wood for his stunning five-wicket haul.
"There was a bit of dew and we thought the wicket would get easier to bat but our bowlers did really well. The whole group, it was Woody's day. It's always a dream for a fast bowler," Rahul said at the post-match presentation.
"When someone is going well and has those kinds of performances, it has a huge impact on the team and on the result of the game. It was Woody's day, he made it count but overall the group put pressure on the batters. It was an important win but we're not gonna make too much of it."
Earlier, LSG rode on IPL debutant Kyle Mayers’ whirlwind 73 off 38 balls to pile up 193/6 on the board. The captain also had special praise reserved for Mayers.
"We were clueless about the pitch. It was a nice way to start and will take a lot of confidence from this. I felt that we were 25-30 runs above par with the way that Kyle batted and the intent of the other batters getting on with the game and taking on the spinners," added Rahul.
