IPL 2023: Bhuvneshwar Kumar to lead Sunrisers Hyderabad in their first match against Rajasthan Royals

Aiden Markram will miss the fixture as he is on national duty.

Veteran India and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) seamer Bhuvneshwar Kumar will lead the franchise in their opening match of IPL 2023 against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Hyderabad on Sunday (April 2).

Aiden Markram, the designated full-time SRH captain for this season, will miss the franchise's opening fixture as he is currently on national duty for South Africa for the two-match ODI series against Netherlands. He is expected to arrive in India on April 3.

33-year-old Bhuvneshwar Kumar, had joined SRH in their year of inception in 2013. He has previously also performed captaincy duties for the franchise in a stop-gap capacity for seven games, winning two and losing five.

Bhuvneshwar attended the captains' pre-season meet and photoshoot on Thursday in Ahmedabad.

Markram is expected to lead SRH in their second match against Lucknow Super Giants on April 7.
