David Warner was named the Delhi Capitals’ (DC) captain for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, as Rishabh Pant will be missing this season as he is recovering from the injuries that he sustained in a car accident last year in December.

On the other hand, India’s spin all-rounder Akshar Patel will be Warner’s deputy in the upcoming IPL 2023, starting from March 31.

Ahead of the IPL 16, veteran pacer Ishant Sharma opened up about Warner’s appointment as DC captain and named an uncapped star who is a very good prospect for the future.

The Indian star said that he is really looking forward to playing under Warner, who led Sunrisers Hyderabad to the IPL title in 2016, and said the entire DC team is eager to help back their new captain in the upcoming IPL 2023.

Ishant Sharma was quoted as saying by DC: “We have a lot of young talent in our squad. Chetan Sakariya, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, and Khaleel Ahmed are really good players. We also have Aman Khan, who is a very good prospect for the future.”

Speaking on Warner's appointment as DC skipper, the veteran Indian pacer said: “David Warner is a very experienced player and he has captained in IPL before. Each of us will look to carry out our roles and back our Captain.”

Ishant also spoke about the impact of the DC head coach Ricky Ponting and Director of Cricket Sourav Ganguly on the Delhi squad.

He signed off by saying, “Ricky Ponting has been very good for the side. He helps us with every aspect of our lives. He makes everyone feel a part of the Delhi Capitals family. Sourav Ganguly's experience as a cricketer will also help us a lot.”

Delhi Capitals will play their first game of IPL 2023 against Lucknow Super Giants on April 1.
