Karnataka batter Mayank Agarwal is undergoing a tough phase in his career after losing his place in the Indian cricket team and Punjab Kings (PBKS) franchise first removed him as captain and then released him ahead of the upcoming IPL 2023 mini-auction.

Now Agarwal has put his name in the INR 1 crore base price category in the IPL 2023 auction, which is set to be held in Kochi on December 23.

Before the auction, former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan named a franchise that will go after Agarwal in the mini-action. Pathan said that Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) will go for Mayank Agarwal in the upcoming IPL 2023 auction in order to boost their top order.

The former all-rounder mentioned that Mayank can be a good option for captaincy for SRH as they are looking for Kane Williamson’s replacement after releasing the New Zealand skipper ahead of the auction.

Irfan Pathan said on Star Sports show Game Plan: “SRH will go after Mayank Agarwal because they need a kind of aggressive opener as well. They don’t have Kane Williamson right now who led them for many years as an experienced player and who used to open the innings as well.”

He added, “Mayank Agarwal is the kind of guy who has led a side, who plays quite freely as well, very fearless, very selfless. They might be thinking of him going forward as a leader as well.”

Notably, SRH will enter the IPL 2023 auction with the highest purse of INR 42.25 crores after releasing 12 players like Williamson, Nicholas Pooran, Jagadeesha Suchith, Priyam Garg, Ravikumar Samarth, Romario Shepherd, Saurabh Dubey, Sean Abbott, Shashank Singh, Shreyas Gopal, Sushant Mishra, and Vishnu Vinod.
