Pat Cummins pulls out of IPL 2023 to prioritize international cricket for Australia

Australia Test captain Cummins was recently named the skipper in ODIs as well.

Australia Test and ODI captain Pat Cummins announced on Tuesday, November 15, 2022, that he will not be playing in the upcoming IPL 2023 edition given the tightly packed international schedule of the Australian team.

Recently named the ODI captain of the side after Aaron Finch’s retirement, Pat Cummins thanked KKR for understanding his decision.

15 November at 5 PM, is the deadline for all 10 IPL teams to submit their list of players retained and released.

KKR already made a few trades by bringing in Lockie Ferguson and Rahmanullah Gurbaz from Gujarat Titans in an all-cash deal and Shardul Thakur from Delhi Capitals in lieu of Aman Khan.

I’ve made the difficult decision to miss next years IPL. The international schedule is packed with Tests and ODI’s for the next 12 months, so will take some rest ahead of an Ashes series and World Cup. Thanks so much to @KKRiders for their understanding. Such a terrific team of players and staff and I hope I can get back there ASAP,” said Cummins on Twitter.

Australia is scheduled to play three ODIs vs England starting 17 November followed by two Tests vs West Indies and three against South Africa to close out 2022. Then in February-March, Australia tour India for a four-match Test series. In March, Australia is scheduled to play Afghanistan for three ODIs.

Australia will then travel to England in June-July for the five-Test Ashes and then to South Africa for five ODIs and three T20Is.

They then return to India for three ODIs and five T20Is followed by the ODI World Cup 2023.
