The IPL player auction ahead of the 2023 season will take place in Kochi on December 23. It will be a mini auction as opposed to the mega auction in 2022 when the ten franchises had to build their squads virtually from scratch.

There were 107 capped players and 97 uncapped. A total of Rs 551.7 crores was spent. The breakdown of the sold players was thus: 137 Indians, 67 overseas.

Also in good news for the franchises, each of the teams will get an additional INR 5 crores to spend in the auction, making the overall auction purse INR 95 crores.

Shardul Thakur among four others likely to be released by Delhi Capitals ahead of IPL 2023 auction: Report

Punjab Kings had the largest purse left over - INR 3.45 crores - after last year's auction, while Lucknow Super Giants had exhausted their entire purse. Chennai Super Kings had INR 2.95 crores remaining, followed by Royal Challengers Bangalore (INR 1.55 crores), Rajasthan Royals (INR 0.95 crores), and Kolkata Knight Riders (INR 0.45 crores).

Defending champions Gujarat Titans were left with INR 0.15 crores while three teams - Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Delhi Capitals - had INR 0.10 crores each.
