RCB lost to RR in the IPL 2022 Qualifier 2 and were knocked out of the tournament.
In the IPL 2022 Qualifier 2 match at Ahmedabad, RCB suffered a seven-wicket defeat at the hands of Rajasthan Royals (RR) and were knocked out of the cash-rich tournament on Friday (May 27).
In 15 years of the tournament, the Bangalore-based franchise hasn’t yet lifted the coveted title. This year, the team looked composed as they won 8 out of their 14 league matches before beating Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Eliminator.
However, RCB’s batting line-up failed to rise to the occasion in Qualifier 2, managing to post a modest 157/8 in 20 overs, which RR chased down with 11 balls to spare on the back of Jos Buttler’s century (106* off 60 balls).
A day after the disappointing result, veteran RCB batter Virat Kohli took to Twitter and penned an emotional note to everyone associated with the franchise.
The former RCB skipper thanked the "12th Man Army" and the management for their constant support throughout the season.
"Sometimes you win, and sometimes you don't, but the 12th Man Army, you have been fantastic, always backing us throughout our campaign. You make cricket special. The learning never stops. A big thanks to the management, support staff and all the people who are part of this amazing franchise. See you next season," Kohli tweeted.
“A big thanks to the management, support staff and all the people who are part of this amazing franchise. See you next season @RCBTweets #PlayBold,” he added.
Virat Kohli endured a dismal IPL 2022 campaign with the bat. He batted in 16 innings this season, amassing just 341 runs at an average of 22.73 and a strike rate of 115.98 with only two half-centuries.
In the Qualifier 2, Kohli got out for just 7 while chasing a delivery from pacer Prasidh Krishna wide outside the off-stump.
