IPL 2022: 5 biggest overseas players that flopped in IPL 15

Here are five overseas players who failed to perform as per expectations in IPL 2022.

The IPL 2022 is into its final few matches of the playoffs after an entertaining 70-match league stage. There were many players who came good in the league matches, while many players just couldn’t do justice to their places in the playing XIs.

Though there were a number of Indian players who fared badly due to poor form, there were also a number of foreign players who couldn’t come to the party. The foreign players are often bought by the franchises to strengthen their squads and give expertise to their XIs which their Indian stars may not give.

That’s why some of them command a huge amount at the auctions, but there were a few overseas players who couldn’t perform as expected and Team COC has picked five such overseas players that flopped in the IPL 2022.

Here are them:

MOEEN ALI

Moeen Ali had a lot of trouble even before the IPL 2022 started due to visa problems and once he arrived he couldn’t deliver in the way he needed to as Chennai Super Kings (CSK) struggled to get momentum from the beginning.

In the end, Ali ended up with 244 runs in 10 matches with the best score of 93 and picked 8 wickets with the best figures of 3/13. He averaged 24.40 with the bat and made his runs at a strike rate of 137.85.

ANRICH NORTJE

Anrich Nortje had come into the IPL 2022 to play for Delhi Capitals not completely fit and missed multiple matches at the start while recovering from the hip injury which kept him out of action since the T20 World Cup 2021.

However, once he returned, Nortje failed to find any rhythm with the ball. He managed to pick 9 wickets in 6 matches he played at an economy of 9.71 and while he bowled at above 150 kph like he normally does, the impact was not there which made him an integral part of the DC camp.

AARON FINCH

Aaron Finch has been battling poor form for some time now and though he got an IPL 2022 call-up from Kolkata Knight Riders as a replacement for Alex Hales, and he got quite a few chances at the top, he couldn’t find a way to score runs consistently.

The non-performance of the top order was a bane for KKR in IPL 2022 and though they tried multiple players as openers, nothing worked and one of those players was the experienced Finch. KKR was his 9th IPL franchise and much was expected from him, but he managed 86 runs in 5 matches with a best of 58, averaging 17.20.

KANE WILLIAMSON

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) had a strange season in IPL 2022. They lost their first two games and then went on a five-match winning streak, but after that, they lost 5 games on a trot to crash out of the contention for Playoffs.

And one of the biggest reasons was captain Kane Williamson struggling at the top as an opener. He made 217 runs in 13 matches at an average of 19.63. However, the biggest thing that hurt was his strike rate of 93.50 in powerplays. Though many thought Rahul Tripathi should have been opening with Williamson struggling in powerplays, he continued to open with no improvement.

KIERON POLLARD

Mumbai Indians finished last on the points table in IPL 2022. And one of the reasons for that was the loss of form of their biggest hitter, Kieron Pollard. MI management backed Pollard to come good despite him clearly struggling to hit the big shots.

They backed him so much, that Tim David was benched for the majority of the season and only got to play when MI was out of contention for playoffs and Pollard voluntarily sat out. The former West Indies white-ball captain made 144 runs in 11 matches with a best of 27 at a strike rate of 107.46.
