IPL 2022: PBKS beat SRH by five wickets in last league match to finish campaign on a high

PBKS finished their campaign with 7 wins while SRH ended with 6 victories.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) faced each other in the last league match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Sunday (May 22).

Opting to bat first, SRH posted 157/8 in their 20 overs with vital contributions from Abhishek Sharma (43 off 32 balls), Romario Shepherd (26* off 15 balls) and Washington Sundar (25 off 19 balls).

Harpreet Brar was the stand-out bowler for PBKS, claiming three wickets by conceding 26 runs in his four overs. Nathan Ellis (3-40) also picked three scalps but he was a bit expensive with the ball.

In reply, Punjab Kings overhauled the target with five wickets in hand and 29 deliveries to spare. Liam Livingstone starred in the chase for PBKS, slamming 49 not out off 22 balls (2 fours and 5 sixes) while Shikhar Dhawan made a vital contribution of 32-ball 39 at the top.

For the Sunrisers, Fazalhaq Farooqi returned with impressive bowling figures of 2 for 32 in his four overs.

The result didn’t have any impact as both the teams were already out of the playoffs race. While PBKS finished their campaign with 7 wins from 14 matches, SRH ended with 6 victories from 14 outings.
