RCB made it into the playoffs of IPL 2022 after MI defeated DC in their final league stage match.
RCB will face off against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Eliminator match on Wednesday, while Gujarat Titans (GT) will play Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the first qualifier on Tuesday.
Delhi, who had an opportunity to claim the fourth spot in the league standings, were knocked out by bottom-placed Mumbai in their last league-stage fixture. Setting a target of 160 for MI to win the match, DC had them 95/3 in 14 overs, with MI needing 65 runs off 33 deliveries.
However, a 50-run stand between David and Tilak Varma took the five-time champions over the line and RCB through to the playoffs.

Tim David especially proved to be brutal, as he smashed 34 runs with 4 sixes and 2 fours in 11 balls, putting MI in the driver’s seat. He had gotten a reprieve on the first ball he faced as despite edging the ball to Pant, the on-field umpire gave him not out and the DC skipper chose not to review the dismissal, with replays showing a huge spike on the ultraedge as the ball passed the bat.
Before the start of the 18th over, the Wankhede stadium was echoing with chants of ‘RCB,RCB’ as the fans knew that MI was going to defeat DC and dump them out of the competition, clearing the way for Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis starrer RCB to go into the playoffs.
