Dhoni is expected to remain CSK captain next season as well.
The defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have had a forgettable IPL 2022, as they are playing their last match of this season against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Friday (May 20) at Brabourne Stadium.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are ninth on the table and have so far won just four matches, and the four-time champions would certainly want to finish the IPL 2022 campaign on a high by winning their final match against RR on Friday.
Well, before the start of the IPL 2022, the CSK captain, MS Dhoni, had surprised many with his sudden decision to hand over the CSK captaincy to Ravindra Jadeja. However, the all-rounder failed miserably, and the charismatic Dhoni returned to power as CSK captain for the later half of the season.
Meanwhile, there was speculation that the ongoing IPL 2022 would be Dhoni’s last season, but ahead of the RR v CSK clash, the skipper has confirmed that he will be back in action in yellow next season.
Dhoni opted to bat after winning the toss and stated that he will play the IPL in 2023 and he would work hard ahead of the season. He said it would be unfair to the Chennai fans if he doesn't play.
On being asked by Ian Bishop at the toss whether he will return next year, Dhoni said: "Definitely. It's a simple reason.. it will be unfair to not play in Chennai and say thank you. Mumbai is one place, where as a team and as an individual, I have got a lot of love and affection. But it wouldn't be nice to the CSK fans.
"And also, hopefully, next year there will be an opportunity where the teams will be travelling so it will be a like thank you to all the different places where we will be playing games at different venues. Whether it will be my last year or not that's a big question, because you know we can't really predict something two years down the line, but definitely I'll be working hard to come back strong next year."
However, Dhoni hasn’t revealed whether he will return as CSK captain, but the reports suggest he would remain the leader.
