Umran Malik has 21 scalps to his name in 13 matches for SRH in IPL 2022.
SRH’s young J&K pacer Umran Malik has been one of the most significant performers of IPL 2022. His ability to bowl fast consistently has made experts and fan sit up and take notice and many have shared their thoughts about the young pacer who has 21 wickets in 13 matches so far in the tournament.
One of those is former West Indies pacer Ian Bishop, who while talking to Sportstar, showered praise for Malik.
He said: "Malik’s pace distinguishes him from every other bowler around the country and beyond now. It has been heartening watching his control improve as the IPL has gone along. He is adding control and know-how to his skill set without losing velocity". He added, "He seems to be a quick learner and a very hard worker who is not overawed by the boundary hitting power of the modern batsman. He gets hit for boundaries and keeps running in harder. That is a great attitude to have."
Umran Malik had a brilliant start to the tournament as he surprised everyone with his sheer pace and striking abilities. Although he has leaked in runs every now and then but made a brilliant return to form, taking 3 wickets for 23 runs in 3 overs against MI recently, helping SRH win by 3 runs.
However, Bishop however feels that a lot of work still needs to be done and Umran is still "a work in progress".
"It helps to have a short memory in the T20 format as a fast bowler. Forget the inevitable bad over or bad games as quickly as possible and keep striving for a good performance with a smile and joy. It is important though to acknowledge that Malik is still a work in progress. He is nowhere near the finished article," said Bishop.
