It was GT's 9th victory in 12 games in the ongoing IPL season.
Opting to bat first, GT rode on opener Shubman Gill’s unbeaten 63 off 49 balls to post 144/4 in their 20 overs on a slow pitch. Rahul Tewatia (22* off 16 balls) also chipped in with a handy cameo with the bat.
Avesh Khan (2-26) and Mohsin Khan (1-18) were the stand-out bowlers for LSG as they bowled economically and shared three wickets between them.
In reply, Lucknow’s innings folded for a paltry 82 in 13.5 overs. It was a listless batting performance as no one managed to touch the 30-run mark. Deepak Hooda was the top scorer with 27 while seven of them got out for a single-digit score.
Leg-spinner Rashid Khan starred with the ball for Gujarat, claiming four wickets by conceding only 24 runs in his 3.5 overs. Sai Kishore (2-7) and Yash Dayal (2-24) also picked two scalps each while Mohammad Shami returned with impressive figures of 1 for 5 in his three overs.
With this victory, Gujarat Titans reclaimed the top spot on the points table and also become the first team in the 2022 season of the IPL to qualify for the play-offs.
For their dominating performance on a slow deck, the Hardik Pandya-led GT side received rich praise from the cricket fraternity on Twitter.
