Bumrah picked 5/10, but MI lost their second match to KKR in IPL 2022.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) pacer Pat Cummins credited Mumbai Indians' (MI) speedster Jasprit Bumrah for showing KKR bowlers what length to bowl on the DY Patil pitch in the 56th match of the ongoing IPL 2022 on Monday (May 9) at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
Bumrah destroyed the KKR line-up by taking 5/10 in his three overs, as KKR was reduced from 136/3 to 165/9. His maiden five-wicket haul in IPL included three wickets in four balls.
Well, Cummins (3/22) also returned fire with a triple-wicket over to guide KKR to a 52-run victory over MI on Monday, as MI was bundled for 113 and lost by 52 runs.
After the match, he credited Bumrah for showing them what length to bowl on the DY Patil pitch, which really helped them to restrict MI to 113 while defending 165 runs.
Pat Cummins told the reporters after the match: “Jasprit Bumrah bowled very well. He showed us that the top of the stumps and back of a length was tough for the batters to hit. DY Patil is also a big ground and to be able to hit six you have to hit it sweetly. Our game plan was to bowl straight lines, back of the length and it worked out.”
Cummins admitted that he didn’t bowl particularly well in the first few games of the ongoing IPL 2022. He also revealed that he was learning from Tim Southee while on the bench.
The pacer added, “I think I’ve played enough to not worry too much about the ups and downs, especially of T20 cricket. I looked at my first four games and was pretty honest that I didn’t bowl particularly well.”
He signed off by saying, “The last few games on the bench have been a good chance to look at Tim Southee who has been bowling fantastically well, so learning off someone like him and when I got my chance again just trying to be that little bit more disciplined.”
