Mumbai Indians (MI) batter Tim David credited the team’s bowlers for their excellent efforts after the Rohit Sharma-led team defeated Gujarat Titans (GT) in their recent IPL 2022 match on May 6 by a close margin of 5 runs.

After being asked to bat first by Hardik Pandya, MI put on 177/6 with Rohit Sharma (43), Tim David (44*), and Ishan Kishan (45) being the major contributors. In reply, Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill hit half-centuries and added 106 runs for the opening wicket.

However, M Ashwin’s 2/29 and some brilliant bowling by Daniel Sams, who defended 9 runs in the last over against Rahul Tewatia and David Miller, got MI over the line by 5 runs, handing them their second straight win of the tournament.

Talking about the win, Tim praised the bowlers for taking Mumbai over the line in the nail-biting last over, where Gujarat only needed 9 runs off 6 balls to win. David had made 44* runs in with 2 fours and 4 sixes to propel MI to a defendable total.

"Given the context, us winning the game, it feels great. It was a good batting wicket, I missed out on a few scoring opportunities in the last over. Shows how well our bowlers bowled in the second half to get us over the line," said Tim David in a post-match presentation.

"The wicket was slightly two-paced, it's about starting your innings, if you get off to a flier then you just run with it. It's great to be on the winning side. It's tough when you are sitting off the field, especially watching your teammates not get the result. Try as hard as you can in the nets and be ready when the opportunity comes," he added.

David was named the Player of the Match as well.
