Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) batter Abhishek Sharma on Saturday (April 23) said that he’s relishing opening the batting with skipper Kane Williamson.

The southpaw is currently leading the runs chart for SRH, having amassed 220 runs from seven matches at a strike rate of 125.71.

On Saturday, Abhishek slammed 28-ball 47 in Sunrisers’ resounding nine-wicket victory over Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. He was involved in a 64-run opening stand with Williamson while chasing RCB’s paltry total of 68.

"I'm feeling really good for contributing for my team and I was enjoying my shots. I think I always wanted to play in this position for any of my teams and I was just waiting for my opportunity. When they decided to give me opening for SRH, I was really excited. Obviously, we have a great support staff with us, so I just keep heeding their help all the time and that's what's helping me,” Abhishek Sharma said.

“It's working really well for us because we've been talking almost on every ball in between the wickets, talking about the game, how it's coming, how the next ball we might play. So that's helping,” he added.

Abhishek Sharma also credited SRH batting coach Brian Lara for his improvement.

“100%, I've been learning my best from him because we all know what he did for the country and for cricket. So I've been trying my best for him," he remarked.

With the thumping victory over RCB, SRH climbed to the second spot on the IPL 2022 points table and they will face table-topper Gujarat Titans in their next clash on April 27.
