Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) pace sensation Umran Malik revealed that bowling at pace in the searing heat in Mumbai is no big deal for him, as he has bowled in intense heat in his hometown of Jammu.

He has been sensational so far in the ongoing IPL 2022. The young speedster is constantly clocking near 150 kph in the tournament and in SRH’s last match against the Punjab Kings (PBKS), bowled a record spell while taking four wickets to help the side win the match by 7 wickets on April 17.

In the 20th over of the IPL, Malik became the fourth bowler to bowl a maiden in the 20th over, joining Irfan Pathan, Lasith Malinga, and Jaydev Unadkat in the elite list. He also became the only second bowler, alongside Maling, who bowled a maiden in the 20th over of the first innings in the IPL.

In the final over of PBKS’ innings, Umran dismissed Odean Smith in the first ball with a short and quicker delivery and then Rahul Chahar and Vaibhav Arora in consecutive balls to complete a triple-wicket maiden. Arshdeep Singh was run out in the final ball of the innings.

As reported by News 18, Umran Malik said after the match: “Needs some time (to realize what he’s done). In Jammu, it usually gets to 47 or 48 degrees, so it doesn’t matter (the heat), it’s actually nice to play in this heat. I think I have got my line and length better over the last few days. The plan was to keep it full and straight, and in that channel just outside off.”

He signed off by saying, “My job is to frighten the batters with pace. I used to play tennis-ball cricket until 2018, and started practicing with the leather ball 3 years back. Abdul Samad, who used to practice with me, got me into the team as a net bowler. There are a lot of fast bowlers in our region (Jammu), plenty of talented bowlers who can bowl at 130-140 kmph.”
