England all-rounder Ben Stokes, who skipped the IPL 2022, was all praises for the young South African sensation Dewald Brevis after his short cameo for Mumbai Indians in the 26th match of the tournament against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

The match is being played at the Brabourne Stadium, so MI captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bowl first. This decision kind of backfired on him as LSG posted a daunting 199/4 in 20 overs. His counterpart, LSG captain KL Rahul scored his 3rd IPL ton as he remained unbeaten on 103, in what is his 100th IPL match as well.

Manish Pandya and Quinton de Kock also contributed with 38 and 24 respectively as MI bowlers leaked runs despite Jaydev Unadkat taking 2/32.

Meanwhile, MI’s start of the chase started off on the wrong foot as Avesh Khan had captain Rohit Sharma caught behind for 6 runs. Then in walked Dewald Brevis and the 18-year-old started pummeling the LSG bowlers to all parts of the CCI stadium.

IPL 2022: Cricket fraternity reacts as KL Rahul’s third IPL century takes LSG to 199/4 against MI

He hit Dushmantha Chameera for six and 2 fours in the 5th over and had hit Avesh Khan for 2 fours in the 6th over, scoring 31 in 13 balls with 6 fours and 1 six, before Avesh hit back by having him caught at covers by Deepak Hooda, leaving MI 57/2 in 6 overs.

His inning was being noticed on social media as several cricketers, both current and former hailed the young gun’s batting talent.

Ben Stokes was one of them, who tweeted, “Brevis = Player”, just before tweeting “Sorry Brevis” as the batter got out right after his praiseful tweet.

Meanwhile some other former cricketers also praise Dewald Brevis’ short, but sweet knock.

Meanwhile, the youngster Brevis has been often compared to Proteas legend AB de Villiers due to similarities in batting styles and his U19 teammates had dubbed him ‘Baby AB’ during the recent Youth World Cup in West Indies where he was the highest run-getter.

And in the pre-match conversation with broadcasters ahead of the match against Lucknow Super Giants, Brevis talked about the impact and inspiration AB de Villiers has been on his life and cricketing style.

He was quoted as saying by IANS: He's played a big role, it's a special relationship. He teaches me small things that helps me a lot. It's about my mindset, the way to play the game & tells me to keep it simple with thinking about the game and also with small technical things which he helps me a lot with. Playing with aggression is important but also to just keep calm in certain situations and to now see how next game goes.”
