Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) skipper Kane Williamson on Saturday (9th April) said that despite the win against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Match 17 of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, his side wants to keep improving.

After a dismal outing in the first two games, SRH finally managed a win under their belt to claim their first two points of the season. The Williamson-led side thumped CSK, who suffered their fourth consecutive loss of the season, by 8 wickets in Mumbai.

Bowling first, after winning the toss, SRH had a great start as Washington Sundar and T Natarajan removed both openers in Robin Uthappa (15) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (16) respectively to leave CSK tumbling at 36/2.

Moeen Ali (48) and Ambati Rayudu (27) then stitched an important 62-run partnership to resurrect their side’s innings. But SRH bowled brilliantly in the death and took wickets at regular intervals to restrict the Ravindra Jadeja-led side to a total of 154 runs.

Chasing the target, young Abhishek Sharma came out all guns blazing and blasted a 50-ball 75 to put his team in a commanding position. He along with skipper Williamson (32) stitched an 89 runs opening partnership. A brutal knock of unbeaten 39 runs off 15 balls by Rahul Tripathi, in the end, sealed the match for SRH with 14 balls to spare.

Speaking at the post-match presentation, Kane Williamson said that despite the win they want to keep improving as they did against CSK. He added that their main focus is on playing smart cricket.

"Every game you play is tough. We want to keep on improving. Although it was our first win, we had to look at some of the things we'd done right in the previous game. Staying calm and staying on task. For us it's focusing on our cricket and play smart,"  Kane Williamson said

Williamson said that although it was a competitive target, Abhishek played a terrific innings. He remarked that everyone in his side is trying to make contributions and make team win.

"The target was definitely competitive on that surface. The ball held on the surface. We were able to build a partnership and Abhishek was terrific. Learning from the first innings and taking it into our chase. The game always challenges you, everybody is trying to make contributions to the team,” he said.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) will next lock horns against Gujarat Titans (GT) on Monday (11th April) at DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai.
